Meet Your Captain
Being a pro in his field, Captain Keith will educate you on everything you need to know about fishing. He will ensure that every trip is tailored to what you are looking to accomplish, and give you the best experience possible.
-
What types of fish will we be targeting during the trip? What species are suitable for children to catch?*In-shore fishing is most suitable for children.
-
Is this a private charter, or will other families/groups be on board?Capt. Keith is a private charter. Your party will be the only party on the boat.
-
Do we need any prior fishing experience? Is the crew experienced in teaching beginners, especially children? No prior experience is required. The crew is professionally trained, and can teach children and beginners how to fish.
-
Is all fishing gear (rods, reels, bait, tackle) provided? Is it suitable for different ages and skill levels?Rods, reels, and tackle are provided on board and is included in the fare at no extra cost. We have special fishing equipment specifically for children.
-
Do we need to have fishing licenses? No. As long as you are on Capt. Keith's boat, you are qualified to catch fish.
-
What is your policy on catch and release? Can we keep what we catch? If so, are there cleaning and filleting services available? As long as the fish are of legal size, you are allowed to keep what you catch. We specialize in cleaning, and prepping the fish for you to keep; HOWEVER, you must bring your own freezer-grade Ziploc bags.
-
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of our fishing trip? What is the cancellation policy for weather? If the weather is bad we can cancel the trip and reschedule, or give you a full refund of your deposit.
-
What is the best time of year or time of day for family fishing trips for the species we're interested in?The best time of year to catch fish is around early Spring to Fall. For Montauk, NY, May-Nov is the ideal period to fish.
-
What should we bring with us (e.g., food, drinks, sunscreen, hats, appropriate clothing, cooler for fish)? You should bring your own food, drinks, ice and ice cooler(s). We also recommend bringing 1-gallon freezer-quality Ziploc bags for the fish you catch. We have a hold onboard to keep the fish cold while we're off the dock fishing, but do not forget to bring your own containers to take your fish home in!
-
Will we get wet on the boat, and should we bring a change of clothes or rain gear? You may get wet on the boat. We do recommend bringing some spare clothes just incase.
-
What should someone do if they are prone to seasickness? We recommend a dose before going to bed the night before to make sure it is in your system and another half dose, along with a dry meal like crackers, toast or a bagel before boarding the boat. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE ON THE BOAT TO TAKE DRAMAMINE.
-
Is the boat suitable and safe for children of various ages? (e.g., high railings, shade, etc.)The boat is suitable for children and there are areas with shade if you get too hot.
-
Are there life jackets on board appropriate for all children's sizes and ages? Are children required to wear them at all times? We have comfortable life jackets onboard for both children and adults. If children are under the age of 12 they must wear a life jacket from the time they board the boat till the time they are off the boat. Personal life jackets are acceptable.
-
What is the minimum age for children to come on the charter? There is no minimum age for children; however, please exercise common sense when considering the age of children you plan to bring along. For example, it wouldn't be a good idea to bring a 4-month old on a charter fishing boat.
-
Does the crew have experience fishing with children and keeping them engaged? We specialize in fishing with children and keeping them enthused during the trip!
-
Are there any activities or things to do for kids if they get tired of fishing? While we primarily focus on fishing, while out on the water we can see: seals, whales, dolphins, and other amazing wild life on occasion.
-
What should we bring specifically for the kids (e.g., snacks they like, specific medications, entertainment for downtime)?Hats, sunscreen, long sleeve shirts and a light jacket are recommended for the trip. Even its warm out, it will likely be cooler out on the water.
-
Is there a restroom (head) on the boat?Yes, our boat has a restroom.
-
Is tipping for the captain/crew customary, and what is the suggested amount? There is usually 15%-20% gratuity.
-
What is the deposit required, and what are the payment options?Payment options are: cash, cashiers check, personal check, corporate check, or Venmo.
-
What is your cancellation policy (aside from weather)? If you do not show up we keep your deposit. We advise you contact us 24-hrs in advance to cancel your trip for a refund.
-
How many people can the boat accommodate? The boat can hold up to 6 passengers. Kids count too.
-
Are food and drinks provided, or should we bring our own? Are there restrictions (e.g., no glass containers)? We do not provide food or drinks. There are no restrictions on containers. Glass containers are also fine.
-
What kind of boat is it, and what are its amenities? The boat is a 38-ft Topaz specifically designed for charter fishing that also comes with fishing chairs, bench seats, and relaxing restroom accommodations.
-
What are the captain's credentials and experience? The Captain holds an unlimited ocean license and has been fishing these waters for over 40-years.
-
Where do we meet the boat, and what time should we arrive? Is parking available? We meet at the boat 15-min prior to shove-off from Snug Harbor Hotel & Marina located at 3 Star Island Rd. Montauk, NY 11954. Parking can be challenging on the weekends. Contact Capt. Keith for recommendations.
